According to a statement from the NFL, a dancer who performed with Kendrick Lamar at the Super Bowl was given a lifelong suspension.
The NFL has verified that a dancer who participated in Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime show has been banned for life.
At the halfway point of the Kansas City Chiefs vs. Philadelphia Eagles game, Lamar took the stage at Caesars Superdome and gave a spectacular performance that included cameos from SZA, DJ Mustard, Serena Williams, and Samuel L. Jackson.
‘Kdot’ rapped the Grammy-winning ‘Not Like Us’ diss track to compete with Drake during the 11-song performance, which has received over 30 million views on the official NFL YouTube channel.
Despite censoring most of his rhymes for the 13-minute performance, Lamar did mention Drake in the midst of a legal battle involving the Compton artist’s representation company, Universal Music Group.
However, there was controversy when Lamar played the song because a man raised a flag with the words “Gaza” and “Sudan” on it, making a direct reference to the ongoing crisis.
The person, dressed similarly to the other dancers, was standing on the stage’s GNX car before leaping down and raising the flag.
The NFL released a statement regarding the incident and confirmed that a lifetime ban would be imposed after rushing security took him to the ground and escorted him out of the stadium.
NFL statement
The NFL told UPI, “We commend security for quickly detaining the individual who displayed the flag,” according to Yahoo.
He was among the field cast’s 400 members. Late in the presentation, the person revealed the object he had concealed on his person.
“The person’s intention was unknown to everyone working on the production. The person will be permanently barred from all NFL games and stadiums.
The pro-Palestine protester’s performance was “neither planned nor part of the production and was never in any rehearsal,” according to a spokeswoman for Roc Nation, the company that hosts the Super Bowl halftime show.
He was ejected from security, but the New Orleans Police Department verified that “no arrest nor summons was issued” and that he would not be charged further.
Following US President Donald Trump’s declaration that the US “will take over the Gaza Strip” with “a long-term ownership position,” the political statement was released.
