Refusing to return to the United States, the well-known talk show presenter has relocated to England.
Many people have been affected by the political climate in the US, and some have begun to question whether they want to remain in the nation at all in the wake of the most recent presidential election.
Former talk show presenter Ellen DeGeneres, together with her wife Portia de Rossi and their kids, has spoken out about her departure and declared that she will “never return.”
The pair, according to an unnamed source close to them, have made their home in the Cotswolds and have no plans to return to America, certainly not while Trump is still in power, The Wrap reported.
The pair, who were once active real estate speculators in Los Angeles and possessed several homes, including those in Santa Barbara, are making a significant shift.
The pair reportedly spent at least $350 million on Santa Barbara houses since 2006, according to Site Line.
However, politics and women’s rights, which have been hotly contested and protested since Trump took office, may not be the only reasons Ellen left the US.
The latest Netflix comedy special included Ellen making the joke, “I got kicked out of show business.”
Launched in September, her Netflix special “For Your Approval” is her first significant effort since she quit her long-running talk show due to allegations that its culture was toxic.
Ellen disclosed to Rolling Stone in April of this year that the controversy surrounding her program had a profound effect on her, saying that it had a “toll on my ego and my self-esteem” and that the “extremes in this business” were challenging.
After Trump took office, Ellen isn’t the only well-known celebrity who seems to have left the US; earlier this month, Eva Longoria, star of Desperate Housewives, also left the US for a new location.
The Latino celebrity now divides her time between Mexico and Spain after leaving the US.
In the past, she told Marie Claire, “I’m fortunate. I can get away and go somewhere.
“Most Americans don’t have it so good. My worry and sorrow are for them as they will be stranded in this dystopian nation.”
In an interview with presenter Ana Navarro this week on The View, she did clarify that her decision wasn’t only due to Trump, asking, “Will you please let them know I didn’t move out of the United States because of Trump?”
“I’ve spent nearly three years in Europe,” she continued.
By the way, that’s what the article states. People just picked out some clickbait content to stir up controversy, which saddens me greatly, you know.
“Everything you say is just meant to be divisive when we can’t be that way right now.”
