Interesting information regarding the physical side effects has been made public by a NASA astronaut who is stranded on the International Space Station.
After more than 230 days in orbit, Sunita “Suni” Williams and Barry “Butch” Wilmore are still trapped in the heartbreaking tale of the stranded NASA astronauts. The two were stuck on the International Space Station after their Boeing Starliner’s first crewed flight in June 2024 was returned unmanned owing to technical problems with their plane.
Williams and Wilmore never imagined spending so much time among the stars, even though they’ve been getting along well with other ISS crew members.
Williams acknowledges that she has had some negative consequences following her 243-day space flight. Elon Musk and Donald Trump have even been formulating a plan to rescue the stranded astronauts, but it involves more than just sending an Uber up to retrieve them.
Williams”shocking’ weight reduction and health concerns have been making headlines.
Williams claims in an open interview that she is no longer able to carry out fundamental body functions. The astronaut stated, “I’ve been up here long enough, right now I’ve been trying to remember what it’s like to walk,” while addressing pupils at Needham High School in Massachusetts. I haven’t taken any walks. I haven’t taken a seat yet. I haven’t fallen asleep.
Williams and Wilmore’s situations are expected to deteriorate over time. According to reports, astronauts who do not take safeguards lose about 1% of their bone density each month in space, and microgravity also causes muscle degradation.
NASA moved out the date of the stranded astronauts’ February flight home on SpaceX’s Crew-9 spacecraft in December 2024.
Williams and Wilmore’s prolonged spaceflight won’t set any new records, of course. Oleg Kononenko, a Russian cosmonaut who has spent 878 days in space over the years, is no stranger to the stars.
Despite NASA’s efforts to keep an eye on astronauts’ health and ensure they participate in routine medical exams, neither Wilmore nor Williams anticipated spending that much time on the ISS. They had to spend an unplanned Thanksgiving in space because they had been there for so long.
There is no hurrying things, even though Musk and Trump want to send the astronauts back. “I have just asked Elon Musk and Space X to ‘go get’ the two brave astronauts who have been virtually abandoned in space by the Biden Administration,” the president stated in a post on Truth Social.
“They have been on the Space Station waiting for several months. Elon will arrive shortly. I hope everything stays safe. “Good luck, Elon!”
NASA has stated that work is now being done: “After careful consideration, the team determined that launching Crew-10 in late March, following completion of the new Dragon spacecraft, was the best option for meeting NASA’s requirements and achieving space station objectives for 2025.”
