Due to their social media post, the US President and First Lady have drawn criticism.
A post on Pope Francis’ funeral has drawn criticism for both President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump.
On Easter Monday, April 21, Pope Francis died at the age of 88. Cardinal Kevin Ferrell of the Vatican said in a statement: “The father’s residence was visited by Francis, the bishop of Rome, at 7:35 this morning. He devoted his entire life to serving the Lord and his church.
“He taught us to live the values of the Gospel with faithfulness, courage, and universal love, especially for the poorest and most marginalised.”
As the church starts the process of selecting a new Pope, the burial is scheduled for Saturday, April 26, and the nine days of mourning will now begin once his death was confirmed.
When he passed away after suffering a brain stroke that left him in a coma and with permanent heart failure, tributes poured in from all over the world.
The President of the United States and the First Lady, however, have one post that hasn’t been warmly received online.
Trump was ‘looking forward’ to attending Pope Francis’ funeral with his wife, Melania, he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Melania and I are planning to travel to Rome to attend Pope Francis’s burial. We’re excited to be there!” Trump stated.
The reply also caused some individuals to be somewhat surprised. One person wrote: “Who looks forward to attending to a funeral? What a disgusting statement.
“Nobody looks forward to going to a funeral,” another person commented. Funerals are solemn, melancholy events where people weep and share their memories of the departed.
A third person added: “It’s really strange to state that you’re “looking forward” to going to a funeral. No one says that.
“Donald Trump declared that he and Melania are excited to attend the Pope’s funeral. That’s cruel,” a fourth person commented.
Tyla has requested a response from the White House.
The funeral arrangements for the late Bishop of Rome have been made public. The dean of the College of Cardinals will perform mass this Saturday, April 26, at 10 a.m. local time.
The Vatican has also made public his last will and testament, which includes his desires for his final resting place.
Who will be named the next Bishop of Rome is still up in the air; a papal conclave, or voting procedure, is expected to take 15 to 20 days.
Although some potential candidates have been proposed, no formal announcement will be made until the conclave is over.
