The long-awaited peace treaty between Ukraine and Russia has yet to materialise, and Donald Trump has had enough of playing nice.
In a scathing new statement, the former president takes direct aim at Volodymyr Zelensky, issuing one of his most inflammatory warnings ever.
Accusing Zelensky.
Throughout his campaign, Donald Trump often promised that he could resolve the war between Russia and Ukraine “within 24 hours.” But so far, that promise hasn’t come true, and it’s evident that the US president is becoming increasingly upset with the situation.
In a blistering outburst that has already lit up social media, President Donald Trump has given his harshest warning yet to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, accusing him of prolonging the war with Russia and risking catastrophic national collapse.
The commander-in-chief issued an ultimatum on Truth Social late last night, leaving no room for interpretation: compromise immediately or lose everything.
“He can have Peace or, he can fight for another three years before losing the whole Country,” tweeted Donald Trump. “The statement made by Zelenskyy today will do nothing but prolong the ‘killing field,’ and nobody wants that!”
What triggered the wrath
Trump’s outrage was fuelled by Zelensky’s statement to The Wall Street Journal that Ukraine “will not legally recognise the occupation of Crimea.” The US president lambasted the comments as “very harmful to the Peace Negotiations with Russia,” claiming that Crimea was lost “years ago under the auspices of President Barack Hussein Obama” and was no longer debatable.
“Nobody is asking Zelenskyy to recognise Crimea as Russian Territory but, if he wants Crimea, why didn’t they fight for it eleven years ago when it was handed over to Russia without a shot being fired?” Trump raged.
He went on to accuse Zelensky of making “inflammatory statements” and “boasting” about a scenario that Trump described as “dire.”
In his most direct condemnation yet, Trump doubled down, implying Zelensky has no leverage left.
“We are very close to a Deal, but the man with ‘no cards to play’ should now, finally, GET IT DONE.”
Trump also addressed the conflict’s human cost:
“I have nothing to do with Russia, but have much to do with wanting to save, on average, five thousand Russian and Ukrainian soldiers a week, who are dying for no reason whatsoever.”
Rubio’s Threat
Just hours earlier, Trump’s Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, told reporters in Paris that the United States may “walk away” from the delayed talks.
“We are now reaching a point where we need to decide whether this is even possible or not,” Rubio added with a laugh. “If not, I guess we’ll just move on. “This is not our war.”
The remarks came as US officials reportedly withdrew from a planned high-stakes summit in London after Ukraine refused to accede to American demands, including giving up territory to Russia. Instead, Trump’s peace envoy, Steve Witkoff, was sighted his route to Moscow to meet directly with Vladimir Putin.
The shift in tone has alarmed US allies. UK officials were apparently taken aback by the White House’s efforts, with one unidentified British minister telling the Daily Mail, “The US are f***ing up everything – on Ukraine, tariffs, everything.”
Ben Wallace, the former UK Defence Secretary, did not hold back either.
“The next war will happen not because of Ukraine’s actions but because of Donald Trump and his red-neck team of Walter Mittys, media pundits and real estate salesmen who fail to understand the world we live in.”
