Despite asserting that the people of Greenland are “incredible people,” the region has retaliated against Donald Trump’s assertions that he will seize their country “one way or the other.”
In his speech to Congress on Tuesday, March 4, President Trump disclosed that Vladimir Putin has sent the United States “strong signals” for peace and described a letter he got from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy regarding the current European conflict.
In a somewhat perplexing speech, the 47th President also had a message for the people of Greenland.
“If you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America,” Trump stated.
“Greenland is essential to both national and even global security.
And in an effort to obtain it, we’re collaborating with all parties. However, it is absolutely necessary for global security.
After appearing to give ‘the amazing people of Greenland’ the opportunity to ‘choose [their] own future,’ Trump said, “And I think we’re going to get it – one way or the other, we’re going to get it.”
“We will keep you safe,” the president said as his speech came to an end. We’ll make you wealthy. And together, we’ll take Greenland to new heights you never would have imagined.
“It’s a very small population but very, very large piece of land and very, very important for military security.”
Greenland’s prime minister, Mute Egede, has since responded to Trump’s remarks with a succinct 10-word retort.
“We don’t want to be Americans,” he stated. We own Greenland.
“We want to be Greenlanders, not Americans or Danes,” he continued.
“That is something that the Americans and their leaders need to realize. We cannot just be seized; we are not for sale. In Greenland, it is up to us to determine our future.
“I think we’re going to have it,” Trump told reporters in January after a “fiery” chat with the prime minister of Denmark. Greenland has been a part of the Danish Kingdom since the 18th century. People want to be with us, I believe.
It would be a very unfriendly act if they didn’t let it happen since it’s for the preservation of the free world, but I’m not really sure what claim Denmark has to it.
Since it has to do with global freedom, I believe we will win Greenland.
“Aside from the fact that we are the ones who can grant freedom, it has nothing to do with the United States. They are unable to.
