Speaking out about the horrific experience, a passenger who luckily survived yesterday’s Delta Airlines tragedy has shared their thoughts.
A plane carrying 76 passengers and four crew members crashed during its landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport in Canada on Monday, February 17.
After striking the tarmac, the plane continued to twist upside-down, leaving all occupants dangling in midair.
Everyone survived the event, albeit it is believed that 18 individuals were hurt.
John Nelson was one of the passengers on the flight, which was traveling from Minneapolis to Toronto.
John talked about the moments before the tragedy in an interview with CNN.
“It was a typical flight from Minneapolis to Toronto,” he stated. As we approached, I noticed that the winds were really strong.
The runways had been somewhat blown over by the snow. Arriving was standard procedure, but it was apparent that the runways were in somewhat strange shape.
John continued: “It was really difficult when we struck. The plane slid sideways once we struck the ground, and I think we skidded on our side before flipping over on our back.
John saw ‘a large explosion on the left side of the plane’ after the jet had come to a stop.
‘Mass mayhem’ was how he put it, especially when everyone was hanging upside-down in their seats.
“We kind of let ourselves go and fell to hit the ceiling,” John remarked on the immediate aftermath.
“It was an unreal sensation. Then everyone yelled, “Get out! Get out!” “Leave!”
“We could smell jet fuel,” he continued. I still have a jet fuel odor.
Thankfully, firefighters arrived “right away,” allowing everyone to leave the aircraft before more of it caught fire.
The fact that the plane did not explode and that all of the people on board survived the terrifying experience has since been praised as a “miracle.”
On YouTube, someone wrote, “It is truly miraculous that this plane did not burst into flames due to the quantity of jet fuel.” “Thank god all the souls on this flight survived.”
“This was a miracle,” stated another, echoing similar thoughts. Eventually, I hope the survivors will fully heal from their psychological and physical wounds.
Another wrote: “It’s amazing that no one died,” praising the emergency services. Give the first responders a raise, please; they saved lives and were prompt and efficient.
