Since then, a judge has prohibited him from accessing Treasury data.
Because of “widespread fraud taking place,” Elon Musk has issued a serious social security warning.
Since assuming the position of chairman of the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), the billionaire has found himself at the core of President Trump’s administration.
The president disclosed that it will serve as an external counselor on federal expenditure, despite the fact that it is not formally a government department. Musk has stated that he will reduce federal spending by trillions of dollars.
Concerns that Musk would have access to private data, including as social security numbers and Medicare benefits payments, have grown since DOGE was given complete access to the Treasury payment system last week.
Musk has since asserted that substantial fraud is occurring in the distribution of “federal entitlements,” such as social security.
“At this point, I am 100% certain that the magnitude of the fraud in federal entitlements (Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Welfare, Disability, etc.) exceeds the sum of every private scam you’ve ever heard by FAR,” Musk stated on his own social media network, X, which was originally Twitter. It isn’t even near.
In a prior tweet, Musk asserted that individuals without a social security number or even “a temporary ID number” were receiving $100 billion annually.
The Tesla CEO continued, saying: “When I asked Treasury employees to estimate the percentage of that figure that is clear-cut fraud, everyone in the room agreed that it was roughly half, which translates to $50 billion annually or $1 billion each week! This needs to be addressed right away since it is completely ridiculous.
The social security database is not de-duplicated, so you can have the same SSN [social security number] multiple times, which further facilitates MASSIVE FRAUD!! Musk stated in another post.
“Social Security beneficiaries and their families have every reason to be alarmed by Elon Musk’s takeover of the US Department of Treasury’s payment system, which is responsible for paying Social Security benefits,” Max Richtman, president and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, told Newsweek.
“There is no doubt that seniors, their families, and those with disabilities cannot entrust Trump and Musk with their personal information or essential federal benefits. We hope that this attempt to take over the Treasury Department’s payment system for obviously political reasons will be stopped by the courts.
An order issued by New York Judge Paul A. Engelmayer has prevented Musk from accessing the private financial information of millions of Americans for the time being.
Musk described the action as “completely crazy.”
This Friday, February 14, is the day of the upcoming court hearing.
