After her bungee cord broke, an Australian tourist plunged 360 feet into waters teeming with crocodiles.
In 2012, while traveling through Zambia, Erin Langworthy decided to try her hand at bungee jumping from a bridge that overlooked the Zambezi River, which is notorious for its crocodile population and powerful currents.
Her bungee line broke in midair, sending her tumbling 360 feet into the rushing waves below, turning what should have been an exciting event into a horrific one.
Social media users posted footage of Langworthy’s tumble into the ocean after the cord failed.
As the river dragged her downstream, Langworthy struggled to keep afloat against the strong current.
She miraculously made it through the fall and the possible danger of predators hiding nearby.
According to reports, she had to untie the cord that became tangled in rocks and swim with her feet linked together.
She was pulled out of the water by a bungee firm employee. She was then sent to a hospital in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, without further delay.
Langworthy was put on a ventilator and given medicines to avoid infection after her fall, which happened at 5:30 p.m., but she didn’t get to the hospital until 11:00 p.m.
Concerned about the tainted water she had consumed, medical personnel treated the young woman for injuries, including partially compressed lungs, and kept an eye on her status.
Thankfully, the results of the X-ray showed that she had no broken bones.
I became concerned about internal injuries once I started coughing up blood. I simply felt worn out and found it difficult to comprehend what had transpired,” Langworthy stated in a Guardian interview.
After visiting the woman in the hospital, the bungee business apologized for the tragedy and expressed surprise that she had survived such a risky situation.
Since then, Langworthy has revealed a moving detail about a playful scene just prior to her jump.
She had humorously written in a postcard to her mother, “I’ll say goodbye because I’m doing a bungee jump tomorrow. Just kidding!
Although her mother is still certain that she would not be engaging in any similar activities going forward, the postcard has subsequently grown to be a beloved memento in her family’s house.
