Beautiful South Sudanese beauty Nyakim Gatwech has experienced discrimination and bullying because of her highly pigmented complexion. Gatwech has accepted her individual beauty and grown into a self-assured advocate for self-love in spite of being advised to bleach her skin.

 

 

 

 

Gatwech’s journey started in Ethiopian and Kenyan refugee camps, where she encountered loneliness and discrimination. She was teased and informed that her skin was “dirty” while she was in America. But she resisted allowing negativity to define who she was.

 

 

 

As the “Queen of the Dark,” Gatwech has amassed a sizable Instagram following, sharing her passion for her skin and her Sudanese roots. Thousands have been inspired by her attractiveness and self-assurance, and they commend her for accepting her individuality.

 

 

 

 

Gatwech laughed and said, “I’d rather take the hard road,” in response to an Uber driver’s suggestion that she bleach her skin. When she posted about the experience on Instagram, her followers showed their support.

 

 

 

 

“You are beautiful, you are unique, and there are people who love you just the way you are,” is Gatwech’s straightforward counsel for young black females dealing with comparable difficulties. Her experience is proof of the strength of accepting and loving oneself.
