I fell in love with a pregnant woman and promised to help her raise the child, but she preferred to have fun while neglecting her responsibilities. She abandoned me, only to return years later and conduct heinous crimes.
I met Molly in college. She was the most stunning girl I had ever seen, but she never recognized me. Molly would regularly hang out with the most popular boys, primarily from the school football team, but we became close friends.
She was cheerful and a great student. It was lovely to have a friend like him, even if my feelings were sometimes unrequited. Eventually, she started dating Tanner, the team’s captain. He wasn’t the typical gruff jock, but I always thought she could do better.
A few months later, Molly arrived at my place in tears. Tanner had dumped her and started dating another woman almost immediately. I consoled her as best I could, but she had genuinely loved him. About a month later, she discovered something life-changing.
“Mark, I’m pregnant,” she told me.
“What?” I exhaled. I couldn’t believe it. “Did you tell Tanner already?”
“Yes. He doesn’t want anything to do with the kid. “He told me to get rid of it because he’s not going to be a father anymore,” Molly explained.
“What an idiot!” I can’t believe he’d avoid his responsibilities like way! “What are you planning to do?” I questioned.
“I don’t know. I don’t want to get rid of it, but I’m in college. I cannot be a single mother. She cried, “My parents are going to kill me.”
“I’ll step up. We may get married, and I will help you raise the baby.””You will not be alone,” I said without thinking twice.
“I can’t ask you to do that.” My apologies, Mark. But I don’t think I’ll ever feel the same way about you,” Molly acknowledged apologetically.
“Don’t worry. It’s not about that. I responded, “We’ll get married so no one looks down on you and you don’t have to be a single mother.” Even I felt it was absurd, but I couldn’t let Molly to cope with it on her alone.
“Are you sure? That’s a lot to ask of a companion,” Molly replied gently, still perplexed by this crazy idea. I convinced her I was serious, and we went down to the courts later that week. Two of our friends testified, and it was a brief event.
I tried my hardest to help Molly get through her pregnancy. It was difficult because we were both college students, but we’d figure it out. Every day, I got more eager to become a father.
Molly, on the other hand, was not too enthusiastic. I could tell she missed hanging out with her friends and experiencing normal college life. However, as a mother, she had to make substantial sacrifices. Amelia was finally delivered, and she was the most stunning baby in the world.
I fell in love with her right away and became her father. Molly adored Amelia and adjusted to parenting better than I expected. We built a wonderful little family, and no one suspected Amelia wasn’t mine because she looked exactly like her mother.
However, Molly’s enthusiasm faded. Molly had a meltdown after putting Amelia to bed when she was five. “I can’t do it any more. “I’ve lost everything,” she cried.
“What are you talking about?” I questioned her.
“I’ve lost my entire youth. “I should never have had a child at all!” Molly continued.
“Molly, please.” Amelia might hear you. “She is in the next room!” I commented, raising my voice slightly.
“I don’t care.” “I want to get out of this.””I’m filing for divorce, and I don’t want to see any of you again,” she said, stunning me to the core. I begged her to think about this, but Molly had already packed her bags and left us forever.
I dashed to Amelia’s room, only to discover that our daughter had overheard the entire incident. “Mommy has left?” she wept.
“Baby, your mommy is going through something right now and requires some time away. She’ll be back soon,” I informed her.
Unfortunately, Molly did not return, and I became a single father. It was harder than I had expected, and Amelia wept almost every night for a year after. But we both ultimately became accustomed to being alone. My baby was the light of my life, and I would do anything to keep us together.
Molly did not call once, although she did constantly update her social media pages. She now got the collegiate life she had long desired. It was one party after another with her old college sorority friends. I felt bad seeing those photos.
How could she allow her child to go out and have fun? It was unforgivable. Several years after her abandonment, I discovered that she and Tanner had resumed their relationship, which exacerbated issues. This was the person who abandoned her when she was most vulnerable and failed to fight for his child.
I couldn’t help but carry on, but Molly decided to return to our lives just as things were going so well. “What do you mean you want Amelia back?” I asked about Molly’s sudden visit to my home.
“Molly is my daughter, and I want her to live with us.” Tanner is finally ready to meet her. “She’s her father,” she explained casually.
“Tanner is not her father. I’m her father.”I’ve raised her all these years, especially after you abandoned her,” I said with disgust in my voice.
“Mark, do not do this. If necessary, I will take you to court to seek custody. That is my child. Tanner and I are engaged. She’ll be overjoyed to finally be with her real family,” Molly added.
“I’ll see you in court then,” I responded, kicking Molly out of my home. Amelia, who was nearly a teen at the time, observed how terrified I was. My lawyers advised me to settle the case outside of court because most judges sympathize with the mother.
But how could a judge help Molly after her abandonment? My name appeared on Amelia’s birth certificate, and I saw her grow up. I was her only father. Molly’s lawyers were fierce, making our battle harder. But Amelia’s testimony sealed the deal.
“I only have one father,” she said, pointing to me. “My mother left many years ago, stating she regretted me. “I do not want to live with her.”
Fortunately, the judge listened to my young child, which my lawyers had not expected. He gave me complete custody, although Molly had weekend visits. I pushed Amelia to forgive her mother and build a relationship with her, which she did.
But she told me every day that I was the best mom someone could have.
What can we learn from this story?
