Ellen DeGeneres’ tenure in America may be coming to an end.
The former talk show host and her husband, actor Portia de Rossi, have reportedly left the country and put their Montecito, California, property up for sale.
Sources who talked to TMZ and The Wrap said that Vice President Kamala Harris’s failed bid for the White House was the exact cause of the couple’s departure.
Degeneres moved to the Cotswolds, a remote region of the United Kingdom, according to The Wrap.
DeGeneres stated in her 2024 Netflix special that she had been “kicked out of show business” for being “mean,” in reference to the allegations of a “toxic work environment” that plagued her daytime program. The comedian also called herself “America’s most hated person” at the time.
DeGeneres is hardly the first well-known celebrity to leave our country. Texas-born actress Eva Longoria recently talked about her personal reasons for leaving California after spending her “whole adult life” there. According to Longoria, “the vibe” in California has changed a lot since the 2010s, and she and her family now go back and forth between Mexico and Spain.
For a cover story that was released last week, she told Marie Claire, “And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge.” “It feels like this chapter in my life is over, whether it’s because of the taxes or the homelessness. It’s not that I want to be critical of California.”
Given the outcome of the most recent presidential election, Longoria feels she made the proper choice.
“I am fortunate,” the actor went on. “I get to go somewhere and escape.” Not all Americans are as fortunate. They will be stranded in this dystopian nation, and I feel sad and anxious for them.
Both Longoria and DeGeneres publicly supported Harris. According to TMZ, DeGeneres openly endorsed Harris and contributed to her campaign when she was selected to succeed Joe Biden.
