As Trump outlines his next course of action, the US-Canada trade battle shows no signs of abating.
The Ontario provincial government raised the price of power sold to the United States, prompting Donald Trump to impose fresh tariffs.
Trump has already forewarned the country that the US will strike back.
Trump outlined his plan to retaliate against Canada on his own social media platform, Truth Social.
I have directed my Secretary of Commerce to impose an additional 25% tariff, up to 50%, on all steel and aluminum entering the United States from Canada, one of the highest tariffing nations in the world, in response to Ontario, Canada, imposing a 25% tariff on “Electricity” entering the country, he wrote.
Additionally, Trump threatened to keep applying pressure to Canada until it made some changes.
“This will take effect TOMORROW MORNING, March 12th,” he added. Additionally, Canada has to quickly remove their anti-American farmer tariff, which has long been seen as absurd and ranges from 250% to 390% on a variety of dairy goods from the United States.
“In the near future, I will declare a National Emergency on Electricity in the area that is in danger.” This will enable the United States to swiftly take the necessary actions to lessen Canada’s abusive threat.
Additionally, Trump cautioned that additional tariff hikes may be forthcoming in April and made it apparent that these current actions are only the start.
He also declared that he was ready to “close down the car manufacturing industry in Canada permanently.”
“I will significantly increase, on April 2nd, the Tariffs on Cars coming into the U.S. which will, essentially, permanently shut down the automobile manufacturing business in Canada,” he wrote in his article, if other egregious, long-standing tariffs are not also reduced by Canada.
“The USA could easily produce those cars! Additionally, Canada relies on the United States for military defense and pays very little for national security.
Unpopular in the country, he once more urged Canada to join the United States as its 51st state in order to prevent more trade war problems.
“The only thing that makes sense is for Canada to become our beloved Fifty First State,” Trump said as he concluded his tirade. All tariffs and other restrictions would completely vanish as a result.
“The greatest and most powerful nation in the world will be bigger, better, and stronger than ever before, Canadians’ taxes will be drastically reduced, and they will be more secure militarily and otherwise than ever before.”
