To her supporters, the Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde sent a special greeting.
The Bishop of Washington, who criticized Donald Trump for his remarks toward immigrants and LGBTQ people, has posted a new message on social media.
Donald Trump quickly signed several executive orders after taking office, including the most contentious one that said there are “only two genders” and numerous others that prohibited immigrants from entering and staying in the US.
Following this action, Right Reverend Mariann Edgar Budde made the decision to draw attention to it during a service that Trump attended on January 21 at the Washington National Cathedral.
Some people took to social media to express their outrage at this, while others defended the bishop, claiming that her appeal for “mercy” was justified.
As she stated in her first ‘plea’: “Millions have trusted you, Mr. President. You have also experienced the providential hand of a loving God, as you informed the country yesterday.
“In the name of our God, I implore you to show mercy to those who are currently afraid in our nation. Democratic, Republican, and Independent households all have homosexual, lesbian, and transgender children, some of whom are afraid for their lives.
“And the people, the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings, who labor in poultry farms and meat packing plants… they may not be citizens or have the proper documentation, but the vast majority of immigrants are not criminals.”
After the service, Trump said he “didn’t think it was a good service” and that it was “not too exciting,” adding, “They could do much better.”
After Trump’s remark, Bishop Mariann told CNN, “I wanted to counter, as gently as I could, with a reminder of their humanity and their place in our wider community.”
She has now thanked everyone who stood up for her and urged others to be bold, compassionate, and supportive of one another in her first Instagram post since November 2024.
Bishop Mariann said in the video, which was posted Tuesday, February 25, “Hello friends, this is Bishop Mariann. I wanted to return to social media to express my gratitude after taking a hiatus.
“I can’t express how much receiving the letters, calls, notes, gifts, and expressions of appreciation, encouragement, and support means to me.”
“I really believe that there is a spirit of love and goodness in our country that permeates every one of us, and that the moment has come for us to unite, draw courage from one another, and learn how to be brave right now while clinging to the positive aspects of our nation and ourselves.
We can accomplish this, particularly if we keep in mind that we are never alone and that there are a hundred people standing by in case one of us falters.
Sometimes we stand firm for the sake of others who are unable to, and we trust that God will use us all to create the kind of community and society that we all deserve and that we wish to leave for future generations.
“Take good care, have courage and remember together we can all be brave.”
There was’more to come’, Bishop Mariann’s post’s caption informed her followers.
