Megyn Kelly has criticized Tom Hanks for portraying Trump fans as “worth-nothing racists” during his most recent Saturday Night Live appearance.
SNL’s 50th Anniversary Special has undoubtedly generated some debate.
First, it has been stated that Ryan Reynolds alluded subtly to the ongoing legal dispute between Justin Baldoni and his wife, Blake Lively.
After that, Miley Cyrus faced criticism for paying tribute to the late Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, who, during her 1992 appearance on the show, famously tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II.
Actor Tom Hanks, who returned to the show as his MAGA-voting character, Doug, is another celebrity who has caused division among the public.
In 2016, Doug made his television debut on the show and took part in a mock game show sketch called Black Jeopardy, which was hosted by comedian Kenan Thompson.
When Thompson’s character attempted to shake his hand during the sketch, the 68-year-old, who was wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, started to lose it.
Doug finally said, “Don’t like that, whoa, whoa, whoa,” after performing the greeting. Perhaps I’ll develop a show called White Jeopardy for you to participate in.”
Hanks’ performance has gone viral since it was shown last weekend (February 15), and 45-year-old political analyst Kelly has criticized it.
The former Fox News anchor said that she was not entirely thrilled with the star’s representation of Trump voters during Tuesday’s (February 18) episode of her SiriusXM podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show.
She called his SNL spoof a “shame on him.” “You know who got it for Tom Hanks, who is undoubtedly worth a billion dollars?
“Everyone who watched Forrest Gump, Big, and all the entertaining Tom Hanks films and never once believed that he was condemning them as worthless, ignorant, rural racists.”
Kelly continued by calling it “shocking” that someone who supposedly “tries so carefully not to be too divisive in his choices” would come out and “suggest he thinks Trump supporters are racists.”
The mother of three went on to criticize SNL for its long-running “anti-conservative programming” in an interview with Sky News.
“They have been openly promoting leftist, anti-conservative, and anti-Trump programming for 12 years and more,” she told the site.
As a guest on Kelly’s podcast, novelist Walter Kirn acknowledged that he didn’t believe Hanks would ever “stoop to this kind of thing.”
The 62-year-old said, “It was a terrible skit, the writing is terrible, and he was the big loser.”
On social media, I see people saying things like, “I don’t think I’m going to be watching him again anytime soon.”
Hanks’ portrayal of the “redneck” has also drawn criticism from SNL watchers. One X user wrote: “They’re still playing the same card.” It’s really exhausting.
Nonetheless, the actor has received a lot of acclaim from fans.
One social media user said, “I realize I’m late to this, but Tom Hanks’ portrayal of the average racist MAGA voter on SNL was spot on and deserves every award.”
“MAGA should ask themselves why Tom Hanks makes them mad in this SNL ****skit,” another person remarked. after which they examine themselves in the mirror.
